Poonsit Wongthawatchai began his finance career in 1997 with the Bank of Thailand, where he worked in both Research and International Departments. During his tenor at the central bank, he was also seconded to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), responsible of monitoring the Thai economy and the proceeding structural adjustment programs.
His career in commercial banking commenced with Siam Commercial Bank (SCB) in 2005, where he developed and directed SCB Research Unit. Prior to his career at Bank of Ayudhya, he was Director of International Relations Department at the Stock Exchange of Thailand, where he managed the Exchange’s external affairs. Poonsit was also a technical advisor to a Member of Thailand’s National Legislative Assembly between 2006 ‐ 2008.
Poonsit joined Bank of Ayudhya Public Company Limited as Senior Vice President, Investor Relations Department, in 2011. Under his proactive investor relations and robust communications to the investment community, Bank of Ayudhya was awarded the Top 50 Companies for Investor Relations in South East Asia from IR Magazine in 2013 and Thailand’s Best Investor Relations Company from Corporate Governance Asia in 2014.
In 2015, Poonsit was promoted to Executive Vice President, Head of Corporate Communications Division, where his responsibilities expand to cover formulating and delivering Bank of Ayudhya’s communications strategies and programs to all key stakeholders. Under this role, Poonsit oversaw the Investor Relations Department, Internal Communications Department, Corporate Social Responsibility Department, Public Relations Department, Translation Unit, and Employee Activity Unit. n 2018, Poonsit was entrusted to supervise the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Division, a new division established in response to the rising global demand for ESG‐focused corporate responsibility, where he takes a leading role in formulating significant ESG issues and integrating them into the Bank’s business strategies and processes, as well as banking product development and provision. Poonsit obtained a Bachelor of Science in Business Economics from University of New Hampshire and an MBA from Columbia University (with the Bank of Thailand’s scholarship). He also received a Master of Philosophy in European Studies from Cambridge University.
