Biography

Iwan Setiawan is a Deputy Director of Bank Indonesia and Head of Community Empowerment Division, Communication Department (February 2015 – present). He is responsible to manage and distribute Bank Indonesia CSR fund to communities in all cross Indonesia. His main responsibilities among others are, leading a team of BI’s CSR to propose CSR theme and program to Board of Governor, making sure all the CSR program being executed by all Bank Indonesia Representative Office all cross Indonesia, and developing and enhancing net working to all strategic partner for implementing CSR program.

Prior to his current position, Iwan Setiawan is a Deputy Director of Bank Indonesia and has been posted as an economist at Bank Indonesia Representative Office for North and South America in New York since the beginning of the year 2012 up to early 2015. He is responsible for providing any strategic issues related to the economy of USA in particular to BI’s Board of Governor. Likewise, he is responsible for maintaining and enhancing international relationship with Bank Indonesia’s stakeholders in the North and South America.

During the period of 2009-2011, Iwan Setiawan was the Head of Foreign Debt Administration and Publication Division, Directorate of International Affairs, where he led 34 people for (1) Preparing policy recommendation on external debt to the Board of Governors, government, and parliament, (2) Preparing papers and presentation material on external debt issues for Director and Board of Governors, (3) compiling and disseminating Indonesia’s external debt statistic and external debt issues, and (4) Discussing and answering any issues related to Indonesia external debt raised by market analyst, IMF, World Bank, and rating agencies.

Iwan Setiawan also used to work in the Payment System Bureau (1999-2000). His main responsibilities were (1) conducting research in the area of payment system development, (2) restructuring the organisation of payment system in Bank Indonesia, and (3) conducting international event or workshop on payment system for Bank Indonesia. Prior to his period in the Payment System Bureau, however, Iwan Setiawan actually spent his early time in Bank Indonesia Branch Office as a Junior Banking Analyst where he gained knowledge and experience in the area of banking supervision (1994-1998). Up to now, he has been working for Bank Indonesia for almost twenty one years. He hold a Master Degree in Applied Economic from Leeds University, UK (1999). During his Bachelor Degree in Economics at the University of Tanjungpura, West Borneo, Indonesia (1992), he also represent Indonesia in Canada and Indonesia World Youth Exchange Program [CWY], (1990-1991) where he gained his first most valuable experience in understanding, working and building a mutual benefit relationship with international society.
