Top Companies Honoured At The 9th Annual Global CSR Summit & Awards and the Global Good Governance Awards 2017 in Westin Langkawi Spa & Resort, Malaysia

Langkawi, Malaysia, March 31, 2017 – 150 senior level industry executives, environmentalists, social activists and NGOs from Asia and the rest of the world attended the region’s most prestigious and longest reigning event for corporate social responsibility and corporate governance, The Global CSR Summit & Awards and the Global Good Governance Awards 2017 now at its ninth successive year. This is the first inaugural event in Malaysia which was previously hosted in Singapore, Philippines and Indonesia.

Since then, the event is recognized as the most prestigious and respected platform for recognizing excellent CSR and governance practices from companies and leading brands from the region and the rest of the world. The event also showcased presentations from over 20 influential speakers including award winning visionary thought leader Professor Martin Blake, Mr Ali Jaleel (CEO, Philips Malaysia) and Mr Chandran Nair, Founder of Global Institute for Tomorrow and author of “Consumptionomics: Asia’s Role in Reshaping Capitalism and Saving the Planet,” and Professor Ray Wills, Managing Director, Future Smart.

Against the backdrop of the theme, “Rebooting Capitalism –Exploring New Market Models”, the speakers presented many perspectives and case studies on Asian, Western and hybrid developmental models that sparked much debate and enthusiasm amongst delegates. Keynote speaker Chandran Nair also commented during his speech that Western models of development have not always been successful and Asian countries should not blindly follow their path. Many Western models of development have not internalized the true cost of consumption, resulting in many environmental and social problems today.

The awards presentation that took place after the Summit was graced by guest of honour, Mr Ramesh Kana, President UN Global Compact Network, Malaysia and our panel of judges namely: Mr Sreenivas Narayanan, Group MD for ASSIST Asia, Ms Terry Leong, World Vision Malaysia, Dr Geoffrey Williams, Managing Partner, William Consultancy Sdn Bhd, Professor Martin Blake, CEO,Blake Advisory Pte Ltd and Professor Ray Wills, Managing Director, Future Smart.

Out of 146 entries received from all over the world, a final selection of 38 companies was awarded top honours in the 16 main award categories namely: Best Country Award, Best Community Programme, Best Environmental Excellence, Excellence in Provision of Literacy & Education, Empowerment of Women, Best Workplace Practices, Product Excellence, CSR Leadership, Best CEO, Best Corporate Communications & IR and Best Governed & Most Transparent Company.

The award ceremony was held after the conference & exhibition which witnessed over 30 international speakers presenting best practices in CSR.

Global Top Industry Executives, Environmentalists and Social Activists to Attend The 9th Annual Global CSR Summit & Awards & The Global Good Governance Awards 2017 to be held 30-31 March 2017 at The Westin Langkawi Resort & Spa, Malaysia

Langkawi, Malaysia, March 22, 2017 – Over 150 top industry executives, environmentalists, social activists and NGOs will attend the world’s most prestigious and longest reigning event for corporate social responsibility and corporate governance, The Global CSR Summit & Awards and the Global Good Governance Awards 2017, will reach its ninth successive year and will be held for first time in Langkawi, Malaysia.

The island of Langkawi, belonging to the state of Kedah, was unanimously selected by past attendees and the organizing committee for its beautiful natural endowments and eco-friendly practices. Since its inception, the event has been hosted in several countries including Singapore, Philippines and Indonesia and attended by attendees from all over the world. The shift of the venue to Malaysia is an opportune time due to the growing concern and the awareness of CSR and corporate governance issues in Malaysia. Despite recent challenges, we have also witness a growing trend of more Malaysian companies showing positive efforts in the area of corporate responsibility and governance.

Since then, the event has grown from strength to strength and attracted a strong following of over 400 global and regional companies that participated or followed the event. The Global CSR Summit & Awards & The Global Good Governance Awards has become known as a global brand known for raising cutting edge ideas and topics in matters of societal transformation, product innovations that change the world and controversial topics that aim to inspire bold ideas to drive large scale changes and improvements to the environment, people and the planet.

The organisers have chosen an exciting theme for the event, “Rebooting Capitalism –Exploring New Market Models”, where the conference will showcase world class presentations and discussions from leading practitioners from the world on workable economic, social and environmental models to meet the demands of today’s and tomorrow’s societies. The event will also host the two prestigious awards show concurrently with a breathtaking eco-tour around the beautiful Langkawi Island on the second day of the event.

The keynote speaker for this event is Dr Martin Blake, an award winning visionary and a globally recognised expert on environmental and CSR issues and he will kick off the event with a thought provoking piece: “Beyond Sustainability: Towards a New Paradigm for Business in the 21st Century: Adapting Versus Embracing Sustainability.
For this year’s awards ceremony which will be during the conference, over 200 delegates both local and overseas are expected to be present at the event including some of the region’s most established organisations who will be eagerly awaiting the announcement of the awards which include the following categories:
